
Another member of The Brass Players to spend his childhood firmly pinned behind a music stand, Derek, at ten years old began a playing career that has seen him in great demand.
By the age of sixteen he was a principal in an award winning ensemble, and was twice named as best Instrumentalist at events featuring many talented players. A gifted musician with a first rate playing pedigree, which includes stints with Black Dyke Mills, Grimethorpe Colliery and Yorkshire Imperial Metals, together with many engagements with various light and classical music groups.
Derek has in recent years become a much sought after, successful Musical Director, having learned his craft under the baton of many of the best known maestros from the world of brass, including James Scott, Ray Farr, Geoffrey Brand, and Major Peter Parkes.
He has the versatility to play a range of instruments and styles, and is equally at home on the Trumpet, Flugel Horn or Cornet. As a founder, member of Harlequin Brass he was featured on their award winning CD Music for a Millennium, which was voted the Classic FM CD of the Year in 2000.
Derek is a seasoned performer with many hours studio recording, prime time TV and National Radio to his credit, together with live performances on Vara in Holland and BBC1 in the UK, you can be assured of not only precision playing, but a distinctive velvet sound that is Derek Renshaw.
